Get There Before It's Gone 2015

1. Jay's Saloon
After years of being in limbo, Clarendon's last true dive bar Jay's Saloon will now close on May 18. Known for being down to earth, casual and super cheap Jay's flourished in being the opposite of all the new and flashy bars that have popped up in Clarendon over the past 10 years. Husband and wife owners Jay and Kathi Moore are forced to close up the house-turned-bar due to development on that block that will eventually become a four story mixed use building.

2. Carpool
Carpool is officially here to stay in Ballston, but there are rumors that the land this great sports bar sits on may be redeveloped. Apparently the owner of the land is playing with the idea of replacing Carpool with a residential tower and parking garage. I understand this is prime real estate, but Carpool has so much character, lots of games, fun outdoor space with cornhole tournaments when its nice out, and is another local Penn State gathering point. I hope I'm wrong, but I recommend checking out Carpool soon just in case.

3. Public Shoe Store
While not a nightlife venue, Public Shoe Store has had a constant presence in the middle of the Clarendon strip for 78 years. Sadly the owner is closing down the shop after two generations of family providing Arlington with professional shoe care.

No word yet on what might replace the shoe store, but it is prime location for another high end restaurant or small bar.

Courthaus Social opening soon

After years of teasing Arlington citizens, the Courthouse beer garden themed bar appropriately named Courthaus Social is opening in April.

I am excited for the change, as Velocity 5 was forgettable at best. Courthaus Social should have a friendlier, brighter atmosphere with bench social seating and server 2 liter boots and steins with lots of draft beers. I'm looking forward to their "life-size games" and District Trivia on Wednesday nights.

O'Tasty plays traditional Irish songs in its own upbeat style and the occasional Pogues or Ween cover, but is known for its high-energy songwriting. Party Like It's... at Clarendon Grill

The most exciting and entertaining cover band I've seen this year is coming to Clarendon Grill this Thursday March 5. Party Like It's... is an amazing five piece band that is extremely talented in performing favorite hits from the 80s, 90s and today along with some of their own ska tunes. Vocalist Cathy DiToro lends a strong and versatile voice as the group's front woman, while Ume is the most entertaining with his antics and hyper Trombone playing craziness. If you don't get snowed in this Thursday, come out to Clarendon Grill at 9:30pm for a no cover awesome show!

Free wine tasting at Oby Lee

This Thursday Feb 5 Oby Lee is throwing a free wine tasting from 7-9pm. Wine sampling from Hugues Beaulieu as well as discounted wines by the glass. Oby Lee is one of the few venues around that have self serve wine by the glass machines.

The small family owned shop is also a bakery with crepes, desserts, and great gluten free treats. On Wednesdays, Oby Lee has a deal to get 50% off a sweet crepe when you buy 2 savory crepes.
