20 years of Mexicali Blues

This August 25 Mexicali Blues will be celebrating their 20th year in business in Clarendon! The colorful casual Mexican restaurant has popular happy hours and is lucky to enjoy a great location on the corner of Wilson and Garfield Street. They will be having an anniversary party that Saturday from 11am to 1:30pm with food and drink specials.

Beat The Clock at Mexicali Blues

This Sunday January 14 Mexicali Blues is hosting a Beat The Clock party starting at 5pm. For three hours, deals on Miller Lite and Blue Moon drafts and wings change every half hour.

Super Bowl XLIX in Clarendon

Christmas Bar Crawl for Cystic Fibrosis Dec 14

Yes, it may be a little early to get into the Christmas spirit, but it's important to keep your December 14th weekend open for OnTap's Holiday Crawl for Charity. This holiday themed bar crawl hits eight great Clarendon bars and raises money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Tickets are only $10 and gives you access on Saturday Dec 14 from 3-9pm to specials and prizes at Clarendon Grill, Mad Rose, Mister Days, Mexicali Blues, Hunan Number One, Bracket Room and Sobe. Dress up in your finest holiday costumes and prizes will be awarded for the most creative costume, dynamic duo, and best dressed group.

Happy Hour @ Mexicali Blues

I wanted to check out the brand new Lyon Hall's menu this Thursday night, as I've heard so much buzz about it. But when I walked in at about 6pm it was already full, and because the kitchen is not yet in full swing they have limited number of tables open for dinner service. I will come back another day, and I recommend to call first and make a reservation if you want to try this French brasserie.

Instead, I dined at another popular local establishment, Mexicali Blues. On the corner of Garfield Street in the middle of the Clarendon strip, it has ample outdoor seating.

I wasn't that impressed with Mexicali Blues' food offerings. Some portions like their burritos are quite large, but their tacos seem lacking and underwhelming. But this venue really stands out as a great happy hour location. It's laid back and airy outdoor seating puts anyone in a good mood when meeting up for drinks after work, and they serve $1.50 drafts from 5 - 7pm Wed and Thurs nights.

Recommended for a nice happy hour spot for friends or coworkers!
