Two years ago I got to witness the LA based all female Warpaint gloss the stage of Blackcat in DC. This year their tour brings to the 9:30 Club on Tuesday, October 4. Formed in 2004, the current lineup comprises founders Jenny Lee Lindberg, Theresa Wayman, Emily Kokal and also Stella Mozgawa.

Check out their appropriately named New Song taken from Warpaint's new album 'Heads Up', out now and available to buy and stream.

Tickets are $25 and parking behind the club is $12. Opening for them is Facial. Doors open at 7pm.

The Naked And Famous at 9:30 Club

New Zealand synthpop/indie The Naked And Famous played at 9:30 Club in DC last night to a sold out show opened by The Colorist. TNAF was amazing live, with energetic and songs from their new album In Rolling Waves and finishing the night with an encore performance of the popular "Young Blood" song. Lead singer Alisa Xayalith sported a new look with short blonde hair, and her voice along with other founding member Thom Powers mesmerized the audience all night. Their Sunday night performance sold out so quickly they added a second show tonight, Monday October 7.

The Colorist at 9:30 Club

The Colorist is a four piece talented band from California and is touring on the east coast now. Their catchy and energetic songs warmed up the 9:30 Club crowd Sunday and Monday night for The Naked And Famous. I really enjoyed their performance, especially during the duet vocals of guitarist Adam Castilla and drummer Maya Tuttle. The Colorist has a lot of chemistry together and is very versatile in their pop/indie beats, with each member switching between two instruments.

The Naked and Famous at 9:30

After this past weekend's Sunday Funday debauchery at A-Town for the Redskins' win, I'm spending this next weekend in the opposite direction. DC is hosting fun music options, starting with DJ Lil E and her legendary 90s mixes at Blackcat on Saturday, Oct 5 10pm.

The weekend will end strongly with The Naked and Famous' sold out show Sunday night 7pm at 9:30 club. Fronted by Alisa Xayalith (vocals/keyboards) and Thom Powers (guitar/vocals), the band debuted their new album In Rolling Waves. They just appeared on Craig Ferguson last night, and decided to add a second chance to see them on Monday Oct 7. Tickets are $35 and The Colorist is opening for them.

Honor By August, MELODIME at 9:30 Club May 24

Several great local bands are playing a show together at DC's famous venue the 9:30 Club. On Friday May 24 Honor By August headlines the night with their new album Monuments to Progress release show. I've seen this DC native band play before at the Clarendon stage at Iota and they are full of energy and contemporary rock when playing live. Their latest album was also recorded close by at Cue Recording in Falls Church.

Joining them will be MELODIME, a popular local rock band from Northern Virginia. I got the chance to see their lead vocals and guitar player Bradley Rhodes when he performed at the April 15 Nine Songwriter Series and am really looking forward to seeing Bradely and his band again.
Jesse Ruben also plays on Friday. I haven't seen the young Brooklyn based acoustic pop/rock musician play before, but I've heard good things and can't wait to see him live.

The show starts at 8pm, and you can get the $15 tickets here on Ticketfly.

Crash Bang Boom at 9:30 Club Sat

Local muscians Crash Boom Bang are playing at the 9:30 Club in DC Saturday Feb 9 evening. I first saw CBB play at a random event in Tysons 3 years ago and were impressed with their light rock / pop quartet sound. I'm happy they are doing well and are now head lining at one of DC's best music venues.

Tickets are $15 here. CBB's after party is hosted by Night Life Agency at MidtownYou can get more updates from their Twitter feed here.

Katie Herzig @ Iota

Talented and personable Katie Herzig opened for Hoots And Helmouth tonight at Iota. I arrived to late to see Katie perform, but was still lucky enough to chat with her and grab a copy of her new album Apple Tree.

The last time I caught her performance was when she sang and in the super-talented Ten Out Of Tenn in December. That Christmas themed show was awesome, especially with Katie's rendition of her hit Hologram. She will be back in town on Oct 7 at the 9:30 club.

Can't wait until Oct 22nd when inspiring tunes of Minus The Bear makes its way to DC again! This time they are coming to the 9:30 club.

While browsing for some of their awesome music videos, I stumbled upon this compilation of a fan playing guitar taps of some of their best songs. Now I really want to learn how to tap like this:
