Margot MacDonald plays at DC comedy show tonight

One of my favorite local musicians Margot MacDonald is playing in DC tonight at The Dunes. She is the musical guest for the "Consensual Sext" comedy night featuring five comedians. The show starts at 8pm, and Margot takes the stage with her amazing voice at 10pm for this technically free show but there is a $5 suggested donation. $5 is more than worth it just to see Margot's talent live, yet alone five comic acts!

Pics from Iota Red Cross show

Iota hosted a great night of live music last Saturday night with proceeds going towards Red Cross' diaster relief fund. There was such a wonderful diversity with different styles of music, but my favorite was the multitracking and great vocals of Margot MacDonald.

Juniper Lane, Margot MacDonald, Against Grace at Iota

Last Friday a triple header of great local indie music took over at Iota in Clarendon. Nothing could stop Margot MacDonald's amazing singing and keyboarding, as she was able to maintain composure and the beat even when the power cord popped out of her keyboard. Juniper Lane played next and reminded me why they are one of my favorite local bands of all time. Singer Vivion Smith led the band flawlessly despite being extremely pregnant. Newcomer Against Grace rounded out the night with an impressive performance.
Margot's performance is always mesmerizing

Against Grace finished out the night strong

Margot MacDonald at Iota Thursday

Margot MacDonald is returning to Iota this Thursday June 30 for a performance that I'm looking forward, along with other local bloggers like Arlington Nightlife. Margot is a Clarendon native who took home the "Artist of the Year" crown during the 25th annual Washington Area Music Awards, held in February at the State Theatre in Falls Church. The win marks the 19-yr-old's seventh Wammie, underscoring her hot streak that began with the 2007 "New Artist of the Year" award.

Last September she performed in Clarendon and did a one woman rendition of Massive Attack's Teardrop that "strips it down and rebuilds it with live loops of her own award-winning voice and subtle heart."
