Goodbye Mad Rose

Another late night staple in Clarendon has shut it's doors this weekend with Mad Rose Tavern throwing its Last Call party Saturday Jan 21. This isn't as much as a tear jerker as other recent closings, as the next door Pampola owners Social Restaurant Group also are involved with Mad Rose and are planning on opening a Taiwanese food restaurant Bao Bar to replace Mad Rose.

Mad Rose opened in 2011 with a strange layout and mediocre food. They worked on focusing themselves on their patio hooka service and late night DJ's. In 2013 they made a splash by hosting a Sisqo concert, which I was hoping was going to lead them to more live music shows in the future. They did well with events and parties thrown by Social DC PR and others as well as frequently hosting popular DJs like Yezmin Soliz. Their back patio was their biggest draw, even if it was in an easy to miss location hidden behind 3100 Clarendon office building.

Looking forward to Bao Bar! Hope it opens soon, maybe later in 2017.

Mad Rose Players and Pets

Hold on for this post, there is a lot happening on Thursday August 6 at Mad Rose.

The Clarendon night spot is hosting an awareness event for dog adoption to benefit the DC Shiba Inu Rescue, who might be providing some puppies for a "pet fashion show" that night. Attendees are encourage to wear as much black as possible to blend with the "blackout" theme from 8pm to 1am.

NextGenGOP Freedom To Marry Happy Hour

This Wednesday May 20 a political group of 20-30s millennials called NextGenGOP is hosting a happy hour at Mad Rose Tavern from 6 to 8pm. This will be a "Freedom to Marry Happy Hour" thrown by young Republicans who believe in equal marriage rights for everyone including gay couples. The event is free, and anyone can RSVP online.

Arlington Shamrock Crawl

Clarendon is set to be a crazy green mess on Saturday March 21 with the annual Shamrock Crawl! Between 2-5:30pm and get ready to rave at some of Clarendon’s most popular bars including: Spider Kelly’s, Hunan One, Mister Days, American Tap Room, Mad Rose, Whitlow’s, Hard Times Cafe, SoBe, Iota, and the brand new Don Tito.

Drink de Mayo at Mad Rose and SoBe

This Sunday, May 4 Social DC PR and Night Life Agency is throwing a Cinco de Mayo party in Clarendon. From 1-7pm, Drinko de Mayo will be in the courtyard shared by Mad Rose Tavern and SoBe. There will be raffles, free sombrero and mustaches, and food and drink specials including:
$3 Dos Equis, Corona, Sol beer
$4 Tequila Sunrise
$ Margaritas, Tequila Blanco El Jimadar shots

Tickets are how about $6 online, and go up to $12 soon. You will need to show up before 4pm to register. Mister Day's is taking a long siesta Sunday and won't be participating after all.

Cinco De Mega-Crawl Saturday

Brace yourself for another large bar crawl in Clarendon this Saturday, May 3 filled with drunkenness and sombreros starting at 3pm. GoCityEvents, the organizers of Shamrock Fest, is throwing a Cinco de Mayo bar crawl with about 10 local bars including Clarendon Grill, Velocity 5, Mad Rose Tavern, Greene Turtle, Hunan One, Arlington Rooftop Bar & Grill, Mister Days, Wilson Tavern, and Hard Times. Tickets are about $18, but you can get them for $5 with promo code "CINCO" now. Mad Rose's 3 Year Anniversary

This Saturday, April 26 Mad Rose Tavern is celebrating its third year as party of Clarendon's nightlife scene. They have hosted lots of events over those years, including being anchors to several bar crawls and a live Sisqo Thong Song performance. There birthday celebration this year should be fun as it is being thrown by Clarendon's own party masters Social DC PR.

The anniversary party starts at noon on Saturday with $15 all you can eat brunch buffet. Happy hour drink prices continue until 8pm with specials like $13 and $25 bottles of champagne with unlimited orange juice. Music will be provided by one of my favorite local mixers Yezmin Soliz along with DJ Chazzta and DJ Escalation.

Cancer Sucks at Mad Rose Saturday

This Saturday, March 8, Mad Rose is having a fundraising night to benefit a little girl suffering from cancer. Azhlee Dayana Salguero is ten years and has cancer in her left femur. She is under going chemotherapy and desperately needs a bone transplant which costs $25,000. Mad Rose's Cancer Sucks night will raise money for her from 5-9pm, with cash donations and $5 raffle tickets (5 for $20) for Captials hockey tickets and restaurant gift cards from local venues such as Bronx Pizza, Circa and Rhodeside Grill.

Update from Chris Santos: "Mad Rose will have a free buffet. Here are some of the drink specials until 9 pm: 1/2 off draft beers, $3 Millet Lite, Coors Lite and Bud Lite bottles, $5 rail drinks, $5 house red and white wine, $6 margaritas and $5 fireball shots."

Mad Rose Mardi Gras with DJ Yez

Mad Rose Tavern is throwing a Mardi Gras party on Tuesday, March 4 with three DJ's, drink specials and no cover charge. The party starts at 9pm and they plan on opening the patio and keeping the outdoors space warm with space heaters. Local mixer Yezmin Soliz will be spinning, along with Clinton Matthews and Antonio Ernesto.

Christmas Bar Crawl for Cystic Fibrosis Dec 14

Yes, it may be a little early to get into the Christmas spirit, but it's important to keep your December 14th weekend open for OnTap's Holiday Crawl for Charity. This holiday themed bar crawl hits eight great Clarendon bars and raises money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Tickets are only $10 and gives you access on Saturday Dec 14 from 3-9pm to specials and prizes at Clarendon Grill, Mad Rose, Mister Days, Mexicali Blues, Hunan Number One, Bracket Room and Sobe. Halloween in Clarendon - Mad Rose Mad O Ween

Halloween night Mad Rose is having a Mad O Ween party starting at 8pm. Live music by DJ SAAM, who just played for a huge crowd at Echostage in DC this weekend. There will of course be costume contests, prizes and Halloween themed drink specials. There is no cover at the door, and the night will feature a special dance off with their "Thriller" Michael Jackson Tribute. Breast Cancer Awareness at Mad Rose Oct 24

Mad Rose Tavern is hosting an awareness and fundraising party for breast cancer research on Thursday, October 24. There is no cover charge, instead all donations made that night go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation through the OneUmbrella Foundation. Project DC Events is celebrating their one year anniversary this Sunday, September 22 at Mad Rose Tavern in Clarendon. Mad Rose Bachelorette party and Crittenton Services fundraiser

Mad Rose is hosting a Bachelorette viewing party this Monday June 9 at 7:30pm. They will be watching someone named Brian Jarosinski try to win someone named Desiree's heart on The Bachelorette season 9 finalie, a show I obviously do not watch. But I will be attending because the $5 donation at the door gets you access to wine and beer specials and goes directly to The Crittenton Services of Greater Washington, a charity that encourages teen girls to stay in school, avoid pregnancy, and graduate from high school.

Also in attendance will be Chris Bukowski, who was on the Bachelorette show previously and is opening a new bar in Clarendon soon called Bracket Room. Thanks to Social DC PR and The Madison for promoting the event.

Mad Rose Fast and Furious 6 release party

If you spot some flashy or loud cars around town tonight, you can follow them to Mad Rose's movie release party starting at 8pm. The Clarendon bar is hosting a Fast & Furious 6 movie release party tonight, Thursday May 30. The party includes music by multiple DJs like EPX, RI5E and Chazzta, food specials, and "hot cars" provided by Mischief.TV. Champagne and hookah will also be available on their outdoor patios.

Tonight in Clarendon

On this Thursday, May 16th in Clarendon you get your choice of a wide variety of live music, from dance to country to indie. Here is the break down:

5:30 - Local musician Derek Evry is playing at Whole Foods, which if you remember now has a bar upstairs.

8:00 - Wilson Tavern is throwing a "Daisy Dukes and Cowboy Boots" party tonight featuring country music, encouraging patrons to wear cowboy attire and short shorts.

8:30 - Live music starts at Iota with Emily Wells taking the stage. Brooklyn-based electroacoustic duo Live Footage also plays tonight. Cover is $13.

9:00 - Round out the night with a CD release party with DJ Saam and King C Lo at Mad Rose Tavern. If the weather holds out, there will be champagne and hooka available on their patio.

Clarendon Cinco de Mayo block party

Next Sunday May 5, several local bars are participating in the a Cinco de Mayo block party. The party includes food and drink specials, 8 various DJs, a Mariachi marching band, and prize raffles for a $12 ticket.

The festivities start at Mad Rose and Darna between noon and 3pm for registration. Other bars like Clarendon Grill, Mister Days, and Sobe keep the party going until 8pm.
