Snowstorm and Triva at Clarendon Grill

Last night, for those fortunate souls not trapped in their cars on the highway or at home without power, Clarendon's still open nightlife was availble to an adventurous few. Spider Kelly's stayed open, as well as the Clarendon Grill which hosted its weekly Wednesday night trivia contest and half price drinks. Thanks to Lindsay for the photos!

Snowpocalypse destroys Clarendon

At the risk of going off topic and writing about the same exact topic every single other local is talking about: The world as we know it was ended by the Snowpocalypse this morning.

The second snowstorm this winter has blanketed the region in at least 8 inches of powder. Thundersnow was reported Friday night.

Metro has closed all above ground stations, and long delays in the tunneled stations. Even walking to the Orange line stop on Clarendon and Highland is a hike, with the wind blowing snow completely horizontal.

Snowball fights are being organized via Twitter in Dupont Circle at 3pm, and someone is trying to set up one in Alexandria as well.

Whole Foods was open this morning with a light crowd, and Moby Dick's on Highland is reported to be staying open.

Snow Emergency declared in DC

According to DC Dept of Transportation, a snow emergency has been declared in effect since 4pm today.

Expected to get 4 - 8 inches of the treacherous white stuff by tomorrow.

Not looking forward to the commute, if everything isn't canceled or delayed that is.

Update: the DCist is calling for THUNDERSNOW tonight. Hrrm.

DDOT reports the Snow Emergency for the District has been lifted.

First Snow of 2009

The first snowfall of the year fell on Monday, but it was just inconsistent flurries.

Today about two inches of light snow blanketed the region as temperatures danced just below freezing, making the drive home interesting but not dangerous.

Tomorrow morning is supposed to have relentless freezing rain and sleet, so I'm worried about everyone's commute. Northern Virginia and DC is especially vulnerable to being shut down by icy roads or just a little heavy snow.
