The Cowards Choir at Iota

Local super talents Andy Zipf, Ben Tufts, Adam Neubauer and Ryan Walker form The Cowards Choir band playing at Iota this coming Saturday, Oct 4. This DC based band is releasing their new EP Cool Currency that night with Justin Jones opening for them.

In August of 2013, The Cowards Choir released the Reunion EP. Less than a year later, they have been featured on WAMU 88.5 Metro Connection, nominated as one of DC's best upcoming bands by Deli Magazine, and mentioned on Rollingstone.com after backing up Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic during a surreal performance of Lorde's "Royals". Their thrilling live show continues to evolve, driven by their camaraderie and the shared desire to make music that creates connection.

Advance tickets are available online here for $14, or $15 at the door. The first 30 people to purchase tickets will be invited to a special listening party at Republic one week before the show.

Tune In, Write Now is a new kind of showcase presented by Arlington local musicians Derek Evry and Molly Hagen. They will be interviewing working musicians and songwriters for insight into the mind and the life of the musician, with the purpose of inspiring upcoming musicians and sharing in the artists work. Tonight will feature a live roundtable with the great talents of local Andy Zipf and Laura Tsaggaris. The $10 show starts at 8pm at Iota.

Andy Zipf with The Beanstalk Library at Iota tonight

I've enjoyed Andy Zipf's shows when he previously played in Clarendon, and tonight he is making a guest appearance with the band The Beanstalk Library. He will be playing a few songs with them at Iota tonight. For the $10 cover, you also get to see performances by Molly Hagen and These Future Saints.

Andy Zipf @ IOTA

I got to Iota late Thursday because I was enjoying Pete's clam pizza and cane sodas, but I still made it in time to see Andy Zipf's entire set. I missed the opening acts, including Justin Tradwick, but it was still worth it to see Andy's rock/folk band play.

Andy Zipf has frequented Iota in the past, and they have also opened for Badly Drawn Boy and The Ataris! I can see why, as this local musician had the crowd mesmerized with songs from their new album. He played with a full band that included several electric and acoustic guitars, drums, bass, keyboard, and even a cello.  I also had a chance to meet their drummer Adam and learn a little about the history of the band. Looking forward to their next show!
