The Highballers at Iota

This Saturday January 31 the colorful and energetic alt country/roots/twang sound of The Highballers returns to Iota. The group is four gentlemen and a lady comprised of vocalist Victoria Patchen, guitarists Kendall Jackson and Sean Lally, drummer Drake Sorey, and bassist Michael Barrientos. They have previously sold out shows at Iota with their loud unique Americana sound and sparkly guitars.

Sharing the stage with them will be Karen Jonas and Chris Timmerman of Union Street. Music starts at 9pm and cover is $12 for the entire night.

Party Like It's... at Whitlows

Party Like It's... at Iota last Friday night
Awesome local cover band Party Like It's... is playing at Whitlows this Friday, January 30. The high energy five member band plays amazing renditions of 80s, 90s and modern party rock songs as well as original ska songs. Recently Party Like It's... did a fantastic job energizing the crows at the close of Justin Trawick's birthday party at Iota. This is sure to be a great show at Whitlows with music starting around 9pm and most likely a $5 cover.

Justin Trawick birthday show at Iota

This Friday January 23 local music legend Justin Tradwick will be celebrating his "5th Annual 29th Birthday Show" back at Iota Club & Cafe. Justin is a huge influence in our music scene, with touring regularly with his band and organizing the Nine Songwriter Series. There will be cake! Please drop everyone, grab your party hats, and come celebrate with Justin, his band, and the great lineup of entertainment planned including:

9 Songwriter Series at Artisphere

Founded by local singer-songwriter Justin Trawick, The 9 Songwriter Series features performances by nine solo singer-songwriters who will perform in rotation, providing audiences with a rich, intimate and varied listening experience. On Friday, January 16 the show continues its tour at Artisphere in Rossyln from 8-11pm. Tickets are $12.

Wiz Wednesday At Mister Days

This Wednesday January 14 the Wizards take on the Chicago Bulls and a die hard group of local fans are meeting up at Mister Days to watch the game. The Wiz Happy Hour starts at 8pm, with Mister Days hosting an extended happy hour until 9pm. Drink specials range from $2 Bud Lights to other select beers for $3/$4 along with some $3 food options. Monday, January 12 is a huge night for college football with the championship game between Oregon and Ohio State. Guarapo in Courthouse wants to be your place to watch it at 8:30pm with food and drink specials during the game.

DC Silent March for Paris Victims at Newseum

The Embassy of France will organize a silent march on Sunday, January 11 following the terrorist attacks in Paris.

This march will take place starting at 2pm between the Newseum (starting point) and the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial (ending point) in Washington, D.C. The Ambassador of France to the U.S. will be present.

This march is open to all who would like to join together in solidarity to remember victims of the attacks and engage in the fight for freedom of expression. More info at their Facebook event page.

No Pants Sunday on the Metro

Be prepared to see some bare backsides this Sunday on the Metro! The annual No Pants Subway Ride DC is taking place in an especially cold January 11, where participants meet at L'Enfant Plaza station and ride the metro 3-5pm without pants while keeping a straight face. This cheeky event was started by Improv Everywhere in 2002 in New York and has now spread to other cities like DC. After party is at Cobalt in Dupont Circle.

The Bachelor Viewing Party at Guarapo

Bracket Room is getting competition on Monday nights with Guarapo in Courthouse hosting The Bachelor viewing parties. Previously Bracket Room, owned by former The Bachelorette star Chris Bukowski, has been the popular spot for groups of ladies to watch the reality romance competition show. Now Guarapo is also showing The Bachelor every Monday night in the upstairs VIP area with wine specials from 8-10pm.
